ORGANIZED AND READY TO EXPLORE

When we arrived at our casa in Oaxaca, we were greeted by a full moon and lovely hosts. The woman who owns the property is currently in the US with serious health problems. We wish her well. Marielena and Gerardo and their 5 year old son, Mateo are house sitting for her. Marielena is Mexican and Gerardo is Swiss. Marielena and Gerardo showed us around the casa and how to operate certain things. We told them about our lost luggage and Marielena asked for our paperwork. She would call the airlines for us and track down the bag. We were really tired. Sam wanted to just sit down and relax; Bob on the other hand wanted to go explore. He really wanted a cold beer. So, we walked just a couple of blocks and bought a few items. You see, Sam had already come prepared for breakfast. She had coffee packets and instant oatmeal in our luggage (thankfully not the one that was lost).

In the morning, we unpacked our “stuff”…except for Sam’s “stuff”. We took a shower and it felt so good. Nice and hot…just what the doctor had ordered. Gerardo knocked on our door and asked if we would like to go to the grocery store. Of course we went. He waited about 40 minutes for us while we went through the store. Of course, Sam already had a list prepared. It was indeed very helpful.

When we got back to the casa, the housekeeper, Elpedia, told us that the airlines called and the luggage was at the airport ready for us to pick-up. This was all done in Spanish. Gerardo was very gracious and told us he would take us to the airport. It took about 20 minutes to get to the airport. When we arrived, we went to the Aero Mexico counter (they are a partner with Delta) and no one was at the counter. We were told all of the agents were assisting a departing flight that was delayed. So we went upstairs and had a glass of fresh guanabana juice. It was delicious and even more so because Gerardo paid for it. We love this country!

About 15 minutes later, we returned to the counter and still no representatives. Sam is getting antsy because she knows that Gerardo needs to get back to pick-up his son from kindergarten. So Sam goes in search of anyone that will help. Just as someone radios for a representative, one shows up at the counter. Yes, they have our bag. Bob signs for it because it has his name on it. They didn’t ask for any ID. It was a good thing they didn’t inspect this bag full of Sam’s clothes because they may have wondered about Bob’s sexuality.

We are now how in our home with all our luggage, groceries, and new friends. We are now ready to explore the city.
