FOR SALE

Sam's comments...56 days and counting!

For several weeks, we have not had a good night's sleep.  Both of us lay awake trying to figure out all of the details and finances for the sale of Bob's mom's home.  We really need to sell the home quickly and raise some revenue.  If we do nothing, money runs out in January or February.  This Friday, will mark two weeks that the house has been on the market.  We have had five showings.  Most of the comments are the house is clean, but very dated.  Well, there aren't any funds to update the house.  We have priced it 17.5% below double the SEV value.  Bob isn't responsible for all of this as he is not the trustee; however, he takes it on like he is.  So when a project is his project, it also becomes my project.

The key this week is to try and find ways to make money.  So we went through the house to see what we could sell on Craigslist.  We made a list, we took photos, and entered all of the info on Craigslist.  This took about three hours and within half an hour, we had an email.  Some guy came over to the house an hour later, and we had our first item sold.  Now we are excited.  It would be great if we could sell the rest quickly.

When I got home, I went back out on Craigslist to check other postings.  I couldn't believe it.  There were over 150 postings after ours and over 600 posting just today for our area in the category of furniture.  This is really mind boggling.

We hope this learning experience will assist us when we go to sell our home.  We have often wondered what we would do with a home full of furniture.  I am sure that our next place won't hold all of our stuff as well as it may be too expensive to move it.  So we will continue to do what we can because we only have 56 days to offer our help, and yes...we are counting!  And people wonder what we do all day long as two retirees.
